To The Editor:
Tuesday, Sept. 27 National Voter Registration Day.
Online Voter Registration, along with the new voter registration program at the Department of Motor Vehicles has had a major impact on both the state and upon New Canaan. I would ask all potential voters to take this time to verify that everyone in their families have registered for the November 8 Presidential election, that their voting address matches their current addresses, and that those who anticipate that they will be out of town on election day are aware of the availability of absentee ballots through the Office of the Town Clerk.
The State Voter Registration website is available to check if you are registered or your address of record. You may use this site to register to vote, to change the information, or to find your polling place. The site also offers information on absentee voting. For those who prefer, The Registrars may be reached at 203-594-3060 or through their office in Town Hall, 77 Main Street.
For those needing to vote by absentee ballot, please contact the New Canaan Town Clerk at 203-594-3070 for information on the process or in regards to the absentee ballot application.
Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 26, the registrar’s office has added 271 new voters, changed 99 voters, and removed 115 voters. New Canaan now has 13,163 voters or 2,818 Democrats, 6,487 Republicans, and 3,858 unaffiliated and other voters.
The deadline for registering by mail, online, or in person in either the offices of the Registrar or Town Clerk is 8:00 pm, Tuesday November 1, 2016. As in other years, voting will be from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. by district in the New Canaan High School and at Saxe Middle School.
