In our State of Connecticut and town of New Canaan, we live in a community where our elections are both safe and secure. They are monitored by both political parties in a fair manner, and the vote is kept safe by these groups and employees of our Town Government. The work at the polls is undertaken by a caring and experienced group of election officials.

Since the inception of our constitutional democracy, political parties have been the chief method of organizing contests between sets of ideas and candidates representing them. As the leaders of the two main parties in New Canaan, we strongly encourage active and positive participation in our elections by all citizens during the campaign and leading up to and including Election Day. This includes respect for lawn signs placed on private property and at polling places.  Stealing or damaging political signs may be treated as a crime.

Early Voting is currently available at Town Hall every day through November 3rd.  You will be able to cast your ballot, after which it will be sealed and stored securely until Election Day. Early voting ballots will be processed through a separate dedicated tabulator and included in the overall total votes cast.

In addition to this year’s Presidential race, there are contests to represent us in the United States Senate race, 4th District Congressional race, and five State legislative contests that cover part of New Canaan. Voters in our community have a choice to select leaders both up and down the ballot. We strongly encourage every eligible citizen to use one of the many options to participate in this important civic duty.

Christina Fagerstal, Chair, New Canaan Democratic Town Committee

Jon Cheng, Chair, New Canaan Republican Town Committee

  1. It’s comforting to see a local bipartisan effort to get out the vote. Thank you both for being role models for cooperation and respect of others’ political preferences.

  2. Thank you Christina and Jon for ensuring democracy continues to thrive in New Canaan. Members of both parties are lucky to have you at the helm. In the spirit of bipartisanship, the New Canaan Museum is celebrating Election Day with festivities on the lawn, a mock voting booth for kids, and delicious hotdogs from Chez Lenard from 11 am – 1 pm. The bouncy castle is for children of all ages! We hope the Town turns out to share in community on this important day. The link to register is in the NewCanaanite but walk-ins are welcome.
