Police on Friday arrested a 50-year-old Shelton man by warrant in connection with a car crash this summer.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 (a Saturday), officers were dispatched to Route 123 near the Country Club of New Canaan on a report of a crash involving two motor vehicles, police said.
Through an investigation, police determined that the man had been driving northbound when he swerved within the travel lane, trying to pass the vehicle in front of him on both sides, officials said.
He also had been following too closely, and drove onto the shoulder of the state road, and grass, crashing into the rear of a car that pulled off of the roadway to make a phone call, according to a police report.
After crashing into the car, the man’s own vehicle caught fire and had to be extinguished by police, the report said.
The occupants of the parked car were transported to the Norwalk Hospital emergency room for evaluation, it said.
Police obtained a warrant for first-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
The man turned himself in on the misdemeanor charges at about 11:35 a.m. on Oct. 29. He was released on $15,000 bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 18 in state Superior Court.
