Celebrate Chinese New Year and Its Many Traditions

FreeCelebrate Chinese New Year at the Library! Chinese New Year is a two-week celebration, and this year it begins on February 10th. Join others to usher in the Year of the Dragon with Chinese dances, traditional food, tea, and crafts. Local organizations and NCHS students will give insight into New Year’s customs such as the kitchen god, honoring ancestors, and the lantern festival. This informative and fun program is a partnership between The Organization of Chinese Americans, Fairfield County Chapter (OCAFC) and the Library.
2:15pm – Dragon Dance performed by Mandarin students in Hsuan-Hui Wang’s class at New Canaan High School. The dance was taught by Yulin Tsao of the Chinese Language School of Fairfield County.
2:30pm – CT Chinese Dance Group will perform a traditional New Year’s dance.
2:00pm to 4:30pm – Learning Tables: the significance and history of many customs, presented by New Canaan High School Mandarin language students.
