Domestic Violence Crisis Center’s First Task Force Summit

Thursday, September, 27, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Summit is part of DVCC’s strategic commitment to raising awareness of domestic violence, and funding to provide effective services, support and education for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence.

Stamford, CT (Sept 5, 2018) – The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) has announced it will hold its first ever Domestic Violence Task Force Summit on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 at Grace Farms in New Canaan.

“October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we feel fortunate for the collaboration we share as partners in raising awareness of domestic violence in our community,” said Kevin Shippy, DVCC executive director.

“Until now, the task forces have worked independently in their efforts to raise awareness of DV in their towns,” shared Chitra Shanbhogue, DVCC’s Director for Center of Community Initiatives. “Each has great knowledge and experience to share. DVCC is thrilled to be able to make everyone’s introductions, with the goal of sharing best practices, increasing collaboration and learning how best DVCC can support efforts of the task forces in the communities we serve.”

Typically the DV task forces are comprised of system partners, law enforcement, and community influencers. Task forces are the DVCC ambassadors in the communities we serve. They have a finger on the pulse of their towns and help bring attention to emerging issues & trends regarding DV. They host awareness raising events, support legislative initiatives, conduct donation drives, support DVCC’s fundraising activities, facilitate preventive education presentations in schools, etc.

Currently New Canaan, Westport, Weston, Darien and Wilton have active task forces that support the mission of the organization.

Domestic violence is a leading cause of injury to women and girls between the ages of 15 and 44 in the U.S. More than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined.

DVCC is the only domestic violence organization serving the communities of Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Weston and Westport. DVCC offers confidential services at no charge including  court/legal assistance, counseling, temporary shelter, housing and children’s services, medical advocacy, professional trainings, multilingual services, preventive education and 24-hour bilingual hotlines.
