Jean Jacobs Gallery Opening Reception: Hans Neleman ‘Beauty is Truth’
Saturday, October, 16, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeJean Jacobs Gallery is pleased to present Beauty is Truth, an exhibition by Hans Neleman at 84 Main Street, New Canaan, CT.
The opening reception with the artist is on Saturday, October 16, 6-9pm.
Beauty is truth, truth beauty, – that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” – John Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn, 1819
Hans Neleman, a Dutch-born New Canaan-based artist, photographer and creative director, with a career spanning over 30 years, is a poetic storyteller who astutely alters the way we view people, cultures, practices and objects. Curated by Eleanor Flatow, Beauty is Truth includes thought-provoking assemblages, collages, oil paintings and photographs grounded in the majesty of transformations and the harmony of contradictions while permeated by sensual and mysterious undertones and references to the past.
“Recurring themes in my work are finding beauty where it is not expected, questioning the harmony of opposites like ‘ideals’ and ‘reality’ and discovering poetic potential in objects,” said Neleman. “When introduced not long ago to John Keats’ poem, I loved how he recognized that objects can tell stories and especially how he explores the correlation between history, mortality, art, beauty, and truth through contradictions. Now may be a very appropriate time to celebrate beauty and truth which according to Keats are the same.”
The exhibition will also include large photographic prints by NELEMAN + SEBASTIAN, a collaboration with artist/photographer Peter Sebastian from Denmark. This work consists of personalized and artistic portraits shot by Neleman and creatively enriched digitally by Sebastian.
We hope to see you there!
