Jean Jacobs Gallery Presents: ‘Tomoko Abe: Tracing Shadows’ an Artist’s Solo Exhibition

New Canaan, CT— Jean Jacobs Gallery is pleased to present Tomoko Abe – Tracing Shadows opening reception on Saturday, September 10th, 2022 from 6pm-9pm at 84 Main Street New Canaan, CT 06840. Tomoko Amaki Abe

“I am interested in exploring art forms that allow me to spontaneously collaborate with the materials I work with. Rather than forcing them to fit my intention, I enjoy the interactive process with the media. The materials speak to me and make me respond to them. Each medium has a unique character, and often demands a specific artistic process or combination with other materials.

Did You Hear … ?

New Canaan Police at about 4:25 p.m. Monday received a report of a larceny at 16 South Ave., according to a call log. That’s the street address of the Mobil gas station. Asked about the incident, police said it involves a juvenile and is being worked out between the business owner and family.

A Stamford-based company, Case Study Brands, on Thursday presented a plan for Waveny House to the Board of Selectmen during a regular meeting. The company provided a broad sketch whereby Waveny gets a “luxury brand reflective of both its heritage and crown jewel positioning with the community,” with a new website and promotional materials, larger events and a staff “house director” whose responsibilities would include “concierge services.” The current online information for Waveny House lives in the Recreation Department’s area of the municipal website and “doesn’t feel glamorous” for what a bride is looking for,” officials from the company said. “It’s a little bit lacking in the glamour” compared to competitors such as the Roger Sherman Inn and Philip Johnson Glass House, they said.

Jean Jacobs Gallery Opening Reception: Hans Neleman ‘Beauty is Truth’

Jean Jacobs Gallery is pleased to present Beauty is Truth, an exhibition by Hans Neleman at 84 Main Street, New Canaan, CT. The opening reception with the artist is on Saturday, October 16, 6-9pm. Beauty is truth, truth beauty, – that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” – John Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn, 1819

Hans Neleman, a Dutch-born New Canaan-based artist, photographer and creative director, with a career spanning over 30 years, is a poetic storyteller who astutely alters the way we view people, cultures, practices and objects. Curated by Eleanor Flatow, Beauty is Truth includes thought-provoking assemblages, collages, oil paintings and photographs grounded in the majesty of transformations and the harmony of contradictions while permeated by sensual and mysterious undertones and references to the past.

‘The Talent That Is in Town’: New Canaan Artist To Open Show at Main Street Gallery Oct. 16

Hans Neleman discovered New Canaan by mistake. It was late-1993 and the Holland native had lived and worked for 10 years in Manhattan after earning a bachelor’s degree in film and photography from The Polytechnic of Central London and a master’s degree in studio art from New York University. A still-life and freelance commercial photographer with his own studio in New York City, Neleman had set out that day with a real estate agent to find a house in Westchester County. They got lost and found themselves in downtown New Canaan. “In the ‘90s you didn’t browse online and find anything,” Neleman recalled on a recent afternoon.
