Men’s Club presentation will report on Hong Kong since the China handover

November 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Free

Robert Grieves, chairman of the strategic communications firm Hamilton Advisors Ltd., will discuss how the Hong Kong population has been impacted by Mainland China control since it was handed over by the United Kingdom in 1997 in a presentation Friday to the New Canaan Men’s Club.
During his time in Hong Kong, Grieves served as chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce and chaired the Chamber’s Charitable Foundation. He previously served as chair of the Council of Public Relations firms of Hong Kong.
The Men’s Club will meet at 10 a.m. in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge. Grieves will begin his remarks around 10:40 a.m., following the business portion of the meeting.
Grieves previously held positions at global public relations firms Burson-Marstellar and Edelman. He also had positions in financial industry firms Merrill Lynch and The Bank of New York. In his earlier journalism career, Grieves reported for The Times, an influential British newspaper, and The Economist.
When Hong Kong was returned to China under its agreement with Britain, its autonomy was to be preserved under system dubbed “one country, two systems.” In time, that approach has been eroded, as described by the Council on Foreign Relations, as China has taken steps to silence dissent.
The Men’s Club has openings for new members, men 55-years old and above. For information about joining, email ncmens@ncmens.org
