The New Canaan Democratic Town Committee is inviting the community to its barbecue fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 27 at the Carriage Barn, an annual event that provides residents with the opportunity to meet and discuss key issues with the top elected party officials and candidates running to serve New Canaan in the upcoming elections.
In keeping with its theme, “Leading with Light,” the day’s menu will feature thoughtful and wide-ranging discussions of the important issues and topics affecting Connecticut while attendees enjoy an array of barbecued offerings, salads and drink options. The event begins at 4 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m.
Based on previous barbecues, the event is expected to draw top federal and state officials, among them U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and U.S. Rep. Jim Himes.
On the state level, past attendees have included Governor Ned Lamont, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Attorney General William Tong, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas, Comptroller Sean Scanlon and State Treasurer Erick Russell. Statewide officials will be joined by candidates for New Canaan’s state Senate and House districts who will be available to discuss their positions and ideas for lighting Connecticut’s way forward.
General Assembly candidates include: Meredith Tobitsch (125th House District); Jill Oberlander (36th Senate District); Weston First Selectwoman Sam Nestor (26th Senate District); State Rep. Lucy Dathan (142nd House District); and State Rep. Savet Constantine (42nd House District).
Live music will provide a backdrop for the event that enables New Canaan voters to meet their officials and candidates, enjoy conversations with neighbors and friends and learn about the important issues affecting the state in a consequential election year.
