New Canaan Library will reopen with regular hours at 9 a.m. Monday, officials say.

Closed since Feb. 18 after a mechanical problem caused flooding, the library team is “making every effort to resume normal operations over the next few weeks,” according to President and CEO Kim McNally.

“We are deeply grateful to our community for your patience and understanding as we have worked toward our reopening,” McNally said.

The Rees Family Children’s Room “will remain closed for at least another two weeks,” she said.

“Fortunately, our collections were not damaged,” McNally said. “During this transition period children’s materials will be available exclusively by placing online holds. The Jim and Dede Bartlett Auditorium and Community Room will also remain temporarily closed to the public as we work to reshelve our collections.”

A relief valve on the backflow preventer failed, causing water from the street to enter the first floor, the organization has said.

The library has been targeting the March 4 reopen date since last week.

Endless thanks to our community partners including the YMCA, Lapham Community Center, and New Canaan Country School, among others, for their continued support,” McNally said. “To best accommodate our patrons, some upcoming events have been moved off-site including ‘One Book New Canaan’ with David Grann, best-selling author of ‘The Wager.’ Please check our events calendar for the most up to date information.”

Springtime offerings that the library looks forward to bringing include “Jeannette Walls, our spring Storytimes, Lidia Bastianich, ongoing tech and instruction classes, Spring Edition featuring Vanessa Chan, and warmer weather on the newly completed Library Green,” McNally said.
