Police last week arrested a 28-year-old New Canaan man by warrant and charged him with violation of a protective order and third-degree criminal mischief.
At about 1 p.m. on May 6, officers took the man into custody on an active warrant that stemmed from an April 24 investigation.
It isn’t clear why a protective order had been issued or how the man violated it. Police withheld details, saying it’s a domestic matter. The violation of a protective order charge is a felony.
Under state law, a person is guilty of third-degree criminal mischief if he or she “[i]ntentionally or recklessly (A) damages tangible property of another, or (B) tampers with tangible property of another and thereby causes such property to be placed in danger of damage,” among other reasons.
He was processed on the charges at Town Hall. Police held him on $50,000 bond and scheduled him to appear the following day. He has since been released from custody and has not yet pleaded. His arraignment now is scheduled for June 27.
The same man was arrested last month and charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with a 911 call.
