Police on Monday arrested a 39-year-old New Canaan man by warrant after he apparently sped away from an officer during a traffic stop last month.

At about 1:08 a.m. on Nov. 17, a Thursday, an officer on patrol saw a vehicle run a stop sign at Forest Street and Locust Avenue, according to a police report.

The officer attempted to stop the car, but the vehicle failed to obey his signal, the report said.

Police traveled to the man’s home on Charles Place and spoke to him on the phone there, though he refused to come outside, it said.

Ultimately they secured a warrant for his arrest on charges of interfering with an officer and operating under suspension. He additionally was charged with speeding, two counts of failure to obey a stop sign, three counts of failure to signal, failure to drive right, disobeying the signal of an officer, failure to give motor vehicle credentials to an officer and improper parking.

He was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 11 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
