Police last week arrested a 43-year-old Millport Avenue man and charged him with third-degree assault and risk of injury to a child.
At about 10:06 p.m. on Sept. 30, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of an apartment complex on a report of the man fighting with another person, police said.
Following an investigation, police took the man into custody on the felony risk of injury and misdemeanor assault charges.
It’s unclear what the fight was about, whether the arrested man is related to the victim or what were the extent of injuries. It’s also unclear how a child was involved. Police declined to provide details, calling it a domestic matter.
A person is guilty of third-degree assault, according to state law, when “with intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person” or “recklessly causes serious physical injury to another person or “with criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon, a dangerous instrument or an electronic defense weapon.”
Police released the man on $25,000 bond and scheduled him to appear Oct. 3 in state Superior Court.
