Police last Thursday arrested a 48-year-old Butler Lane man by warrant and charged him with electronic stalking and violation of a protective order, a felony offense.
On Feb. 13, police took a complaint from the victim who provided evidence that the man had violated an existing protective order, which includes a condition that prohibits stalking, officials said.
Following an investigation, authorities determined that the man had violated the order, according to a police report.
Under state law, a person is guilty of electronic stalking when he or she “recklessly causes another person to reasonably fear for his or her physical safety by willfully and repeatedly using a global positioning system or similar electronic monitoring system to remotely determine or track the position or movement of such other person.”
Police took the man into custody at about 3:56 p.m. on April 7 for the two charges.
According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, New Canaan Police also had charged the man Feb. 2 with disorderly conduct.
He was released on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear April 8 in state Superior Court.
