New Canaan Man, 54, Charged in ‘Ding-Dong-Ditch’ Incident

Police on Tuesday night arrested a 54-year-old Ledge Avenue man and charged him with risk of injury to a child, third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and third-degree criminal mischief.

At about 7:03 p.m. on Oct. 14, officers responded to the man’s house on a report of juveniles ringing doorbells, police said.

There, officers spoke with the man, who told them that the juveniles had been ringing his doorbell and running away for the past several nights, according to a police report.

But when police interviewed the juveniles, they were told that the man had grabbed and thrown one of them to the ground, the report said.

Through an investigation, police established probable cause to bring the misdemeanor and felony charges. Under state law, a person is guilty of risk of injury when he or she “willfully or unlawfully causes or permits any child under the age of sixteen years to be placed in such a situation that the life or limb of such child is endangered, the health of such child is likely to be injured or the morals of such child are likely to be impaired, or does any act likely to impair the health or morals of any such child,” among other reasons.

The man was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 24 in state Superior Court.

  1. Very sad – one age group that is naturally mischievous and unknowing and the other intolerant of intrusion and harassment after a lifetime of perhaps too much required abuse. I hope the teens and the homeowner learn no more confrontations in this society, too dangerous, after this clear nightmare for the homeowner and I am sure regret for the teens.
