Police on Saturday night arrested a 60-year-old Ponus Ridge man and charged him with failure to halt possession of alcohol by a minor.

At about 10:11 p.m. on May 4, officers were dispatched to an upper Ponus Ridge home on a noise complaint, according to a police report. There, officers heard loud music and saw beer cans scattered in the driveway, the report said. They also saw about 30 to 40 youths running into the woods, away from the residence, it said.

Police contacted the homeowner and, following an investigation, brought the misdemeanor charge.

Under state law, “No person having possession of, or exercising dominion and control over, any dwelling unit or private property shall knowingly, recklessly or with criminal negligence permit any minor to possess alcoholic liquor.”

The man was released after promising to appear May 16 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
