Police arrested a 44-year-old New Canaan woman for driving under the influence following an argument in the high school parking lot around pick-up time Monday afternoon.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched to New Canaan High School at 1:55 p.m. on a report of a dispute in the parking area in front of the building.

A motorist had been accused of parking improperly in a handicapped space and the argument had broken out, the report said, and police prior to arriving at the school learned that one of the parties involved in the dispute was driving away and might be intoxicated.

Police found the suspect’s vehicle and at first the operator “failed to obey the officers’ instructions and did not stop when instructed to,” according to the report.

They charged the woman with driving under the influence, interfering with an officer and failure to stop when signaled.

She was held on $2,500 bond, expected to be released Tuesday and will be scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
