Police on Wednesday night arrested a 56-year-old New Canaan woman by warrant and charged her with sixth-degree larceny.

At about 8:16 p.m. on Oct. 25, police responded to the area of Park and Cherry Streets on a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with no injuries, officials said.

On checking each motorist’s records, officers found that one of those involved, a Millport Avenue woman, had an active arrest out in connection with a larceny last month, according to a police report.

The Sept. 29 incident involved a local restaurant/deli on Elm Street, the report said.

Police had been contacted by the establishment’s owner about missing items worth about $38—a bag of Oreos, ginger bread cookies and marshmallow cookie pop, it said.

The theft had been captured on video surveillance inside the business, and the suspect identified through the credit card she’d used to purchase other food while there, the report said.

For her part in the car crash downtown, the woman also was cited for making an improper turn.

She was released on $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 7 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
