As the New Canaan Rams prepare for a defense of their Class L State Championship, future Rams saw plenty of action last week on the youth diamonds. The AA Division-leading Yankees continued their winning ways, though the second place Angels were able to keep pace. In the A Division, the Cardinals remained in first place with a tough win over the Padres.
AA Division
Yankees–6, Orioles–3
The Karl Chevrolet Yankees defeated the Express Orioles 6-3 in a hard-fought battle. Great pitching from the Yanks’ Cole Schubert held the Orioles attack in check.

The O’s offense was paced by great at-bats from Thomas Arnold and Robert Harris. The Orioles defense was stout with great plays from Charlie Besgen and Jack Greiner. Trey Hartnett paced the Yankee offense with a multi-hit game. The Yankees defense was anchored by John Totaro and Colin Sampson.
Angels–15, Orioles–12
The Mellick and Sexton Angels defeated the Express Orioles 15-12. Big hits from Henry Garrity and Evan Hayes led the Angel offense. Stout defense from the Oriole infielders Robert Harris and Jack Grenier kept them in the game.
The Angels defense was led by web gems from Colin Tiscornia. The Orioles bats came alive in the middle of the game with big at bats from Eoin Mueller and Andrew Mackenzie. The Angels pitching staff was solid with the save coming from Steven Riccardi.
A Division
Cardinals–10, Padres–4
Jack Sheffield drills a hit.
The Information Services Group Padres squared off against the Apple Cart Food Co. Cardinals on Monday, with the Cards earning a 10-4 victory in a game that was much closer than the score indicates.
Jack Sheffield pitched a scoreless 1st for the Cardinals, and kicked-off the scoring in the bottom of the 1st when he drove-in Brady Waldron with a ground-out to short.
The Padres battled back in the 2nd when Teddy Cooney laced a single to center, scoring Abe Wheeler and loading the bases. Cards hurler Brendan Hagan, would buckle-down and end the threat with one of his 6 Ks on the day.

The Padres offense was led by Quentin Pearl, Gordon Stuart and Thomas Garcia who loaded the bases in the 4th, and were driven home by Cooney, Taylor Yancy and Fletcher Heron.
But the Cardinals bats were too much on this day. Matt Salmini, Bradley Werneburg and Trey Kaupp all stroked RBI singles, and a double to the gap from Sheffield capped off the scoring for a 10-4 Cards win.
