The 1934 Colonial at 47 Park Place has come down and builders have applied to put up a new home more than three times its size in its place, according to documents filed at the New Canaan Building Department.

The town issued the demolition permit Feb. 18 and on March 17, a permit on behalf of Canaan Contruction Ltd for the new home was filed at Irwin.
The home that came down on the .3-acre lot, was a 2-story, 3-bedroom home (five rooms total) with two bathrooms and total living space of 1,380 square feet. The property was purchased in September for $742,000, tax records show.

The new home would include a finished basement with a gym, media room, bathroom and playroom. It would have 1,810 square feet on the first floor (including dining, family and living rooms, kitchen with breakfast area, mudroom and powder room), and 2,222 square feet on the second floor (four bedrooms and three full baths).
Total construction costs are pegged at $875,000, according to the building permit for the single-family residence.

A building permit also has been issued for Panelworks LLC to put up a new single-family home with 5,600 square feet—that’s more than three times the size of the home that was on the .49-acre lot before.
The new home will include five bedrooms, four full baths, two half-baths, a 2-car garage, finished attic and open and covered patios, according to documents filed at the building department.
The 1934 house that had stood there had belonged to the same owner since 1975 and was sold in December for $930,000, tax records show. Construction of the new home is estimated to cost $850,00, according to the building permit.
