Representatives of a family-owned local business are urging their customers to book appointments for a popular service soon, as Thanksgiving approaches.
Launched two years ago, the self-serve dog washing stations at Pet Pantry Warehouse on Grove Street often get booked out even in a regular week, according to Ira Schwartz, a manager at the store.

“Before a major holiday, book at least five to seven days in advance,” Schwartz told NewCanaanite.com on Sunday as one of the Grove Street store’s customers washed what appeared to be a Labradoodle in one of the two stations inside.
Pet Pantry Vice President Adam Jacobson said the popular washing stations had been taken out of commission temporarily before coming back in October.
Schwartz said locals “are back” in the store following the break.
“Everybody in New Canaan has always rushed to come in here, so it’s good for a community to have this,” he said.
In addition to sponsoring and running the hugely popular annual “Dog Days New Canaan” each May, a fundraising event for animal rescue held in recent years at the New Canaan Nature Center, Pet Pantry also feeds the New Canaan Police Department K-9 dog and has supported other animal-related causes, including Bankwell’s “Pet Adoption Project.”
The self-serve dog washing stations are booked for 30 minutes at a time, Schwartz said, and they “get booked up.”
“People love it,” he said. “It’s the best thing around.”
