Police Arrest Stratford Man for DUI, Cite Norwalk Teens for Pot Possession

Police arrested a 45-year-old Stratford man Saturday night and charged him with driving under the influence.

A motorist phoned police around 6:13 p.m. saying that someone driving a BMW SUV was driving erratically on Smith Ridge Road near Glen Drive, according to a police report.

An officer stopped the southbound car near Lakeview Avenue and smelled alcohol when confronting the driver, police said.

The motorist failed field sobriety tests.

He was released on $150 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 12 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Police cited two Norwalk teens on minor drug and alcohol charges Friday night after stopping their car on Route 123 for a defective headlight.

At about 9:30 p.m., an officer saw a car with its headlight out traveling southbound on New Norwalk Road, according to a police report.

Stopping the car near Lakeview Avenue, the officer smelled pot emanating from the vehicle as he approached it, police said.

The driver, 17, handed over a small joint and said there may be more in the trunk, the report said.

Police found a backpack with two grinders and a pipe belonging to a passenger, also 17, and found another bag that belonged to the driver that had a quarter-full 40-ounce bottle of beer in it, the report said.

Police also found an empty mason jar with baggies and marijuana residue in it, rolling papers and various other bags that had traces of pot on them, the report said.

The teens each were were cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver additionally was cited for possession of alcohol by a minor.

A third male in the car, 16, was not charged.

Their case was referred to the Juvenile Matters Division at state Superior Court in Stamford, where they’re scheduled to appear Feb. 10.
