Police Find 208 Xanax Pills, Shrooms and Pot on Speeding Motorist

Police before dawn on Saturday arrested a 20-year-old Westport man on a slew of drug charges after finding Xanax, shrooms, pot and other substances in his car after stopping him for speeding.

At 2:41 a.m. on Nov. 14, an officer pulled the man over after clocking his car traveling 60 mph in a 40-mph zone on New Norwalk Road near Shaker Road, according to a police report.

The officer smelled marijuana on approaching the vehicle and when he asked the driver about it, the man said he had a little less than a half-ounce, the report said.

A subsequent search of the car resulted in finding 208 whole and 10 half-pills of Xanax, 1.84 ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms, 2 orange Diazepam pills and a little over two ounces of marijuana, the report said.

Police also found a digital scale, clear sandwich bags and rolling papers, the report said.

They charged the man with transporting with the intent to sell a hallucinogenic substance, illegal possession of narcotics, transport with intent to sell a controlled substance, transport of marijuana with intent to sell, illegal possession of hallucinogenic substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal storage container for narcotics (the prescription drugs were not in their original container). He also was ticketed for speeding.

The man was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 24 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
