Police arrested two men on drug charges Tuesday night after they failed to stop when signaled to pull over in New Canaan and eventually led police onto a dead-end street in Norwalk.
According to a press release issued by New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski, an officer at about 6 p.m. saw their car swerve over the double-yellow line on Route 123 near East Avenue, and tried to pull the vehicle over.
“The suspect vehicle began to pull over but never completely stopped,” Krolikowski said.
Police followed the car onto the Merritt Parkway, which it exited in Norwalk, where police from both New Canaan and Norwalk apprehended the two men inside, he said.
An undisclosed amount of prepackaged marijuana and cash were seized during the incident, the police chief said.
A 31-year-old Norwalk man, the driver, was charged with illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription or dispensing of marijuana, possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle without a license and reckless driving, and cited for failure to drive right, failure to obey a traffic control signal and failure to obey the signal of an officer.
The passenger in the car, a 27-year-old Bridgeport man, was charged with illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription or dispensing of marijuana and possession of marijuana.
Both men have “extensive criminal conviction histories,” Krolikowski said.
“The New Canaan Police Department is committed to targeting and arresting those that sell drugs within the town of New Canaan,” he said.
