Police arrested a 54-year-old East Avenue man on a misdemeanor charge following an argument about spending money on Christmas gifts.

Some time on Christmas Eve day, the resident spat in the face of a person with whom he was arguing about holiday gift money—an argument that had started at a Norwalk home and continued here in New Canaan, according to a police report. The arrested man was driving the victim to a South Avenue residence, became verbally abusive toward that person and ended up spitting in his or her face, the report said.

He was charged with disorderly conduct.

Police released him after promising to appear Dec. 28 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

For the second time this month, a 32-year-old New Canaan was charged with criminal violation of a protective order after entering a Forest Street home where a victim from a past incident resides.

Officers at about 6:22 p.m. on Saturday were called to the victim’s Forest Street home on a report of an argument occurring outside, according to a police report.

Arriving, they found the woman sitting on the sidewalk and determined through their investigation that she had been inside the home earlier—violating a protective order—and that other occupants of the home had kicked her out, the report said.

She was held on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Dec. 28 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
