Police arrested a 19-year-old Valley Road man by warrant after investigating an underage New Year’s Eve party in New Canaan that turned up alcohol as well as marijuana and cocaine.

Officers at about 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 31 were called to Wellesley Drive on a report of a youth drinking party, according to a press release issued by Police Chief Leon Krolikowski. There, they came upon a large group of youths, some of whom may enter a new “diversionary program” in lieu of facing criminal charges, the chief said.

Following an investigation, the 19-year-old was charged with possession of narcotics (cocaine) and interfering with a police officer.

He was released after promising to appear March 3 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

The investigation may yield additional arrests, Krolikowski said.

“The New Canaan Police Department is serious about reducing the availability of alcohol and narcotics to our town’s youth,” he said.
