Police on Saturday night arrested 50-year-old New Canaan after breaking up what appeared to be a large underage drinking party at her house.

At about 11:32 p.m. on Nov. 9, officers were dispatched to an Oenoke Lane residence on a complaint of loud noise coming from it, according to a police report.

Arriving officers saw about 30 to 40 teens running away, the report said.

The police saw empty beer cans outside the house, it said.

They found the woman inside the property’s guest house and saw a ping pong table with plastic cups on it, as well as numerous alcohol containers in the guest house, police said.

Police charged the woman with failure to halt possession of alcohol by a minor, a misdemeanor offense. The law applies to those who, “knowing that any minor possesses alcoholic liquor … in [a] dwelling unit … fail to make reasonable efforts to halt such possession.”

She was released after promising to appear Nov. 21 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

  1. Why are you with holding names ?My daughter a couple years ago passed a school bus in the back of new canaan high school by accident and her name was published in the paper and these peoples are being with held ridiculous.

    • We didn’t publish your daughter’s name. Since the New Canaanite launched six years ago, we have not published the names of arrested people except in rare cases such as violent felony crimes or when there’s a public safety reason such as a scamming contractor or thieving nanny.
