Town officials last week approved a $14,375 contract with a local company to replace a wood rail fence in Waveny.
The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 at its Oct. 31 meeting in favor of the contract with Gannon Rustic Fence LLC.
It will replace an existing one separating the newly paved parking area from a girls softball field—known as the Orchard Field—that’s “in disrepair,” according to Public Works Director Tiger Mann.
“Now that we have repaved that area, the grades have changed slightly, so the rail would have to be replaced anyway, even if if wasn’t past its useful life,” Mann told the selectmen at the meeting, held in Town Hall and via videoconference.
First Selectman Kevin Moynihan and Selectmen Kathleen Corbet and Nick Williams voted in favor of the contract with little discussion.
According to Mann, Gannon “has done the majority of the wood rail replacement in Waveny Park” and gave the town a very good price.
“I looked to compare pricing when we did the opposing section, the western rail, and his pricing in line with that,” he said. “That’s a 10-year-old item at best.”
Funds for the work are available in the DPW budget, Mann said.
