Our first Q&A is with Heather Satin, owner of WAVE, a jewelry, clothing, accessories and home furnishings shop at 86 Elm St.

New Canaanite: How is the holiday shopping season going so far?
Heather Satin: It’s definitely picking up. I think it was a little delayed because Thanksgiving was so late. But now everyone is just ready to go, knowing that we basically only have two weeks left of fun holiday shopping.
What are some of the best selling items you’ve had?
We’ve been doing really well with a lot of the fun bubble letter necklaces, for teens and kids in their 20s and some adults. And then also we’ve been doing incredibly well with the gold and diamond charms and they come in sapphires and you can layer them on all different styles of chains and then you could keep adding to the collection. Also, we just brought In an added to our collection of fine jewelry, some incredible diamond statement piece necklaces and earrings. What we’ve also found is people are loving multiple earrings for their ears because people are adding multiple holes to their ears. So they’re really creating an ear game with huggies and hoops.

What would you tell someone who hasn’t had a chance to stop into your shop, maybe a new resident or someone coming through? What would you tell them about WAVE?
We’ve been here for almost 32 years and we really create an atmosphere of fun and friendliness. And we’re happy to wrap and ship and help you with a specific shopping experience to who you’re looking for. We do basically personal shopping on a daily basis.

We just had the Stroll, the garlands are up, the holiday lights are up. What’s it like downtown this time of year?
Oh, it’s so beautiful, especially at night, just seeing the lights, although during the day is when people really shop.I’d say, definitely stop by and see a lot of the, you know, small businesses that are in town, not all big box stores. I think that’s what New Canaan’s all about, is the independent stores. And we really work hard all year round to create an amazing vibe for everyone.
