The number of family dispute calls fielded by the New Canaan Police Department in January fell from the previous year from five to one, Chief Leon Krolikowski reported during Wednesday’s meeting of the Police Commission. Other notable changes year-over-year in January were a decline in radar-related incidents, down from 118 to 41 and an increase in fraud-related calls, up from zero to four.

Asked to gauge support on the Town Council for New Canaan Library’s request for a $10 million town contribution toward its rebuilding project, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during a press briefing Thursday, “I thought the Town Council was almost unanimously in support of the $10 million.”

The New Canaan Building Department on Feb. 18 issued an after-the-fact permit for about $18,000 of work done at 132 Farm Road. The work involved a second floor renovation that included a renovation to an existing bathroom. The permit generated $245 in fees for the town.

State transportation officials say the town may use parking revenue reserve funds to purchase and install three more “bus stop” canopies at the Talmadge Hill Metro-North Railroad station. The funds normally are used for projects around the train station downtown. The canopies are expected to cost about $46,000. Metro-North-related support costs will be covered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The Board of Education has canceled its Feb. 24 meeting, according to a notice on its website.

The town on Feb. 12 issued a permit for new construction at 142 Overlook Drive, an estimated $780,000 job.

Embody Fitness Gourmet on Forest Street, closed since last month due to what a sign in the window described as an “electrical failure,” now appears permanently closed. The sign has been removed, and during a Feb. 7 “closing inspection,” New Canaan Health Department officials noted that there are “small flies” in the back kitchen. “If facility is to remain closed, all food items should be removed to prevent spoilage or to create an environment that invites insects and rodents,” the inspection report said.

And lastly, a 27-year-old Bridgeport man at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday turned himself in to New Canaan Police on a paperless re-arrested warrant charging him with failure to respond to a payable violation. He failed to pay or plead after police ticketed him in September for speeding, driving without a license and possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana.
