New Canaan Police confirmed that they’re investigating the break-in Friday of a SUV parked in the lot between Waveny Pool and Spencer’s RUn.
A handbag was stolen from the floor in the backseat area of the car in the smash-and-grab, Police Lt. Jason Ferraro confirmed.
Chief Leon Krolikowski had reported at the most recent meeting of the Police Commission that larcenies from vehicles so far in 2018 were double what they had been one year earlier—up from two to four, he said at the group’s April 17 meeting.
There are no surveillance cameras at Waveny. New Canaan in recent years has seen periodic surges in thefts from cars at the popular park. In one instance in 2014, a Darien woman reported that the rear driver’s side window of her Mercedes had been smashed and that an $8,000 diamond-studded Rolex was stolen from the car.
