Police say a report of a stolen trampoline on Bickford Lane turned out to be a local woman who had responded to a Craigslist ad for a free trampoline and accidentally took one from a neighboring house.
At about 3:27p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to Bickford on a report that a trampoline had been cut down and removed from a backyard. Arriving, police found a homeowner there who said that the only part of the trampoline still intact was its frame, and that its mat, safety net and foam pad went missing some time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day, according to a police report.
Later, police discovered that a neighbor had put up an ad on Craigslist for a free trampoline, and that the woman who answered the ad and removed the wrong one—a 56-year-old New Canaan woman—had done so in error, and agreed to cover the cost.
An ad posted six days ago to Craigslist’s Fairfield County site and which remains on the site reads: “free trampoline for whoever can either haul it away, or disassemble/re-assemble. Base, springs and trampoline mat are in good condition. some Safety barriers are damaged, but can easily be repaired.”
