Wallet Reported Stolen from Car Parked at Country Club of New Canaan

Police are investigating a report of a stolen wallet from the center console of a car while parked in the employee lot of the Country Club of New Canaan. The owner of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Stamford man, came to New Canaan Police Headquarters at 8 a.m. June 26 saying his wallet went missing after parking in the club’s employee lot. According to a police report, the man left to get his haircut during the day in Stamford, however he remembered locking his car. At around 4 p.m. the same day, the man recalled returning to his car in the employee lot to find his wallet missing from the center console. That same night the man received a call from his mother, the owner of the credit cards in his wallet, saying that there were fraudulent charges on her credit cards, according to Sgt.

Where New Canaanites Congregate Downtown (on Weekdays)

The Pop Up Park located between Morse Court and Elm from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening is a haven for NewCanaanites seeking to relax, perhaps enjoy a peaceful meal or coffee in the warmth of the summer months. The park is also home to several events for adults and children alike. Such activities as mini golf or events like the 2014 World Cup viewing party add another layer to this already family-friendly site. The Pop Up Park as it stands right now only pops up during weekends in the summer—a fact that for town resident Cobie Graber opens up the question of whether it should become a permanent fixture in the town center.

Plan To Re-Sod Athletic Fields Approved

The NewCanaanite.com Summer Internship Program is sponsored by Baskin-Robbins, Connecticut Sandwich Co., Joe’s Pizza and Mackenzie’s. After becoming severely weather-beaten as a result of a late winter, athletic fields across the town saw delayed openings, frustrating parents and coaches seeking to get players on them as early as possible. During the season, parts of the playing fields get so much use that it makes sense for parks officials to swap in fresher sod from one area to another. On Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen approved $24,750 from the Department of Public Works Field Maintenance Fund to replace around 30,000 square feet of sod on fields throughout town. The unanimous 3-0 decision approves a request made by the DPW Parks Department to enter into a contract with Athletic Field Services of Bridgeport, which will be responsible for replacing the sod at a rate of 75 cents per square foot.

Scooter Reported Stolen from New Canaan Garage in Broad Daylight

Police are investigating a report of a $1,500 scooter stolen from a Summit Ridge Road garage—possibly while the woman who reported the theft was home and in her own back yard. The homeowner, 51, called in the larceny at 4:51 p.m. Friday—about four hours after she’d heard something in her driveway while in the back yard, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department said. When she looked to see what the noise was, the woman recalled seeing two Hispanic males riding a white scooter into her driveway and a white van with blue lettering on the side parked on the road in front of her house, according to a police report. While not thinking anything of it at first, when the woman looked in her garage later she noticed the red and white 2006 Honda Metropolitan scooter was missing.
