11 Unanswered Goals Power New Canaan Lax to Convincing 14-3 Victory over Wilton

On a chilly, brisk evening it took the New Canaan boys lacrosse team a while to get warmed up. Once they got hot, there was no stopping the Rams.

Led by senior co-captain Justin Meicher’s 5 goals, the Rams reeled off 11 unanswered scores en route to a convincing 14-3 win over FCIAC rival Wilton Thursday night at Dunning Field. “I thought our shooting was better in the second, third and fourth quarter – especially the second and third,” New Canaan head coach Chip Buzzeo told NewCanaanite.com. “We started moving the ball. First quarter we didn’t move the ball. We had one possession where we moved the ball well. The other possessions we were just dodging to cage and trying to score.

Oh ‘K’! Kane, Keshin Lead Rams Softball over the Hilltoppers

After a cold and dreary home opener back on Friday, the New Canaan Rams softball team stepped back onto Orchard Field Wednesday, this time under the bright sunshine. And the sun wasn’t the only thing that shined on the field. Freshman pitcher Gillian Kane struck out 13 batters and allowed zero earned runs while sophomore shortstop Rachel Keshin went 5-for-5 at the plate, leading New Canaan (2-2; 2-1 FCIAC) to a 13-6 victory over Bridgeport Central (1-5, 0-3 FCIAC). After retiring the Central side in order in the top of the 1st, Kane helped herself early with some offense. With Keshin on base after a leadoff single, Kane ripped a pitch down the right field line for a home run and a quick 2-0 Rams lead.

LaPolice and Newlove Stymie McMahon’s Offense in Baseball’s 6-1 Win

On a picturesque spring afternoon at Mead Park, the first home game of 2015 for the Rams, a pitcher’s duel occurred. Senior co-captain Alex LaPolice took the hill for the Rams, and after they scored two runs in the bottom of the first, LaPolice made that enough to get the W for New Canaan (3-0; 2-0 FCIAC) over Brien McMahon. “It felt good,” LaPolice told NewCanaanite.com when talking about his outing. “I was getting ahead of kids which was huge. [Felt] really good early on.” LaPolice helped his cause when the Rams put up two runs in the 1st.

Leaving New Canaan after 20 Years

I write this poem (at right) because we are leaving home. The only home I’ve really ever known. It wasn’t my first home, but after 20 years of living on Park Street, the Sauerhoffs are leaving New Canaan. But the history of the Sauerhoffs in New Canaan extends much beyond 20 years. In fact, us moving in 2015 makes this the 49th year that a Sauerhoff has lived in New Canaan.

The Boys of Mead: 2015 New Canaan Rams Baseball Preview

The snack shack got back to business at Mead Park a couple weeks ago. Now the boys of the New Canaan Rams baseball program are getting ready to do the same. After a 2013 season that culminated in the program winning its first state championship since 1950, it was going to be tough for the 2014 Rams to follow such an act. But while 2014 didn’t include any championships (14-6, 12-6 FCIAC) it did feature continued development of some top talent and leaders that are ready to create their own story in 2015. That story begins with the team’s four senior co-captains: outfielder/pitcher Alex LaPolice, pitcher/outfielder David Giusti, shortstop Brandon Abate, and All-State catcher Zack Smith.
