Thomas Lawrence McLane, 89

Thomas Lawrence McLane died peacefully on Friday September 10, 2021.  Near him were his children, Beth, Jen, and Brad; and his granddaughter Haley.   He lived an active and engaged life until just after his 89th birthday, then slowly declined due to a number of underlying conditions.  A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday September 24, 2021 at St. Mark’s Church in New Canaan, CT with an outdoor reception immediately following. Tom was born May 3, 1932 in New York City to William Lawrence McLane and Elizabeth Fish Benjamin McLane.  They soon migrated to New Canaan (home of his grand and great grandparents).  He grew up on Silvermine Rd with siblings Betsy, Jamie, and Greer.  He attended the Little Red School House, New Canaan Country School, St. George’s (Newport, RI), then Warwick College (UK) for a PG year while deferring admission to Yale.  He was very involved at Yale with rugby, St. Anthony’s, college hockey, the Glee Club, and his beloved Whiffenpoofs.  He graduated in 1954 concurrent with being commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force via the ROTC program (later honorably discharged as a Captain from the reserves).

Katherine M. Reilly, 98

Katherine McLachlan Reilly of New Canaan passed away at home on September 9, 2021. She was 98. Kay was born April 2, 1923 in Danbury, Conn., the daughter of George and Katherine McLachlan. She graduated high school from the Convent of the Sacred Heart Noroton and from Rosemont College. She married Lawrence H. Reilly Jr. and they raised their family in Darien starting in 1954.

Allison Garver Caesar, 100

Allison Garver Caesar, born in Manhattan, New York in 1921, celebrated her 100th birthday and peacefully passed away on July 8, 2021. She lived an extraordinary life filled with love for her family, friends, philanthropy, fashion and, of course, flowers. Allison was married for 63 years to Henry A. Caesar II and, after moving to New Canaan, CT in 1940, raised four boys – Sanderson Caesar (Elizabeth), Porter Dean Caesar II (Susan), Austin Brewster Caesar (Margaretta) and John Garver Caesar.  In turn, those boys gave her the joy of her 8 grandchildren: Allison, Sara and Rob; Laura and Andrea; Brooke, Tyler and Lauren and 13 great grandchildren. She attended the Chapin School in New York, then spent two years in school in Gstaad, Switzerland before returning to the US to attend Westover in Middlebury, CT. Allison lived a life of giving, not only to her family and devoted friends, but also to many organizations, both national and local.  She had a great love for the arts and for her home city of New York and actively supported MOMA and the Metropolitan Opera.  But her greatest support was for her community here in New Canaan.

Ryan Frederick Rothfuss 23, of New Canaan, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2021. He was born in New York City at Mt. Sinai Hospital on August 15, 1997 to Frederick and Marylou Rothfuss of New Canaan. Ryan was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, boyfriend and friend. He was a gifted oil painter from the age of 7.

Chandler Crosby, 43

Chandler Crosby, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dog dad, died following an accident on Monday, July 26 in Boulder, Colo. 

He was 43. Born March 11, 1978 in Morristown, N.J. to John and Eleanora Crosby, he was a light to his family, friends and all those that knew him through his professional life as a swim coach, yoga instructor and life teacher. Big-hearted, soft-spoken and generous, with a warm smile, Chandler laughed easily and lit up rooms with his loving energy, never saying no to a person in need. He was adored by his cherished twin nieces, whom he loved to spoil. A graceful and gifted athlete, Chandler was an All-American collegiate swimmer who loved to cook.
