New Canaan Police are investigating an illegal home entry on Turning Mill Lane. Officers were dispatched to the house at about 4:40 a.m. on April 2 in response to a garage door alarm. There, police found signs of forced entry into the garage though not the main residence, officials say.

The Ethics Board has scheduled a hearing and special meeting at 7 p.m. on April 27 “to take testimony, receive evidence, and hear argument on a pending Ethics Complaint filed against First Selectman Kevin Moynihan,” according to a meeting notice. After the hearing, the Ethics Board will “deliberate, and possibly act, upon the aforementioned Ethics Complaint,” according to the notice. “To the extent permitted by law, the Ethics Board may enter into executive session to deliberate.” Here’s the latest on the investigation.

Great news: All 2,000 Color Drop balls were sold in support of the major annual fundraiser for the New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation. In all, $50,000 was raised and 300 people attended the Color Drop on March 26. Sponsors included April & Kelly at William Raveis, Walter Stewart’s Market, Karl Chevrolet, Franco’s Wine, New Canaan Community Foundation, Merrill Lynch, Stamford Health, Silver Hill Hospital, Source IT, New Canaan Coalition and NewCanaanite.com.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Steve Rubin, longtime principal of Center School in New Canaan, who passed away Tuesday at hospice at Norwalk Hospital, according to a notice from his family. A funeral service has been scheduled for 12 p.m. on Friday, April 8 at Temple Israel, 14 Coleytown Road in Westport. We will publish Dr. Rubin’s obituary as soon as it is available.

The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday voted 3-0 to appoint Barb Achenbaum and Peter Campbell to the Health & Human Services Commission, and to appoint Art Berry ask an alternate on the Historic District Commission.

A Canoe Hill Road resident at about 3:50 p.m. on March 31 reported a stolen purse to police.

Police at 9:10 a.m. on March 31 received a report that a motorist had passed a stopped school bus on Weed Street near Indian Waters Drive.

The Town Clerk’s office on April 1 received written notice from a Stamford woman that she “fell due to an icy sidewalk in front of The Whitney Shop” on Elm Street at about 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 17 (a Monday). “I intend to make a claim against the Town of New Canaan for my injuries (diagnosed with Subdural Hematoma) which resulted in surgery,” she wrote.

The New Canaan Building Department on April 4 received applications to demolish ca. 1900- and 1910-built homes at 158 and 160 Forest St., respectively. Records show that 160 Forest St. underwent alterations and additions in the 1990s.

An online fundraising campaign for the late Walker McFadden, who had been a New Canaan High School sophomore last year, has raised more than $17,500. The family had since moved to Utah, and Walker died last month. A note on the GoFundMe page includes this passage: “Walker loved football and lacrosse. He was actively involved in both teams at Lone Peak and New Canaan High Schools. Walker’s life took him across the country and the globe, where he quickly created meaningful relationships with all he contacted. His selfless love extended to his relationships with his siblings and parents, Rob and Tamara McFadden.”

Police at about 7:15 p.m on March 30 arrested a 51-year-old Norwalk man and charged him with second-degree failure to appear. An officer on patrol saw the man with a disabled vehicle on Route 123 and discovered that a paperless re-arrest warrant had been issued for him. He’d been charged by the state Department of Revenue Services in 2017 and 2018 with seven counts of failure to file a sales/use tax return, Connecticut Judicial Branch records show.

First Candle, a New Canaan-based nonprofit organization committed to ending Sudden Unexpected Infant Death, has been named an Official Charity Partner for the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon, taking place Nov. 6. First Candle partners with communities around the country to educate families on infant safe sleep practices and how SUID can be prevented while also offering bereavement support to those families who have tragically experienced the death of their baby.
