Police are investigating the theft of two safes from a Lukes Wood Road home, reported at 10 p.m. on May 8. The safes had cash and jewelry inside. Broken glass was found at the rear door of the house.

Congratulations to New Canaan’s Nick Crovatto on being selected to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. A senior captain at Bucknell, he was one of 12 student-athletes recognized on this year’s academic all-league squad. He was the lone faceoff specialist to make the team based on his performance on the lacrosse field and in the classroom. In 2022, Crovatto broke the school standard in single-season faceoff wins (172) and matched the school record in single-game ground balls (14 vs. St. John’s).

Police say that a fraudulent email resulted in a local victim sending Bitcoin to a suspect in an email scam. The fraud was reported to police on the morning of May 7.

Congratulations to New Canaan’s Ryann Mushkin on receiving awards from the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Mass Media and Strategic Communication. Mushkin received one of two Wayne Tansil Scholarships, which recognize outstanding students in the news-editorial concentration, and the Outstanding Senior Award for the news-editorial concentration.

LiveGirl is partnering partner with the Carriage Barn Arts Center for its fifth annual juried art exhibit. Running June 2 to 16 and free to the public, this year’s She Is Rising exhibit will feature more than 100 artworks in all mediums by female artists celebrating women and girls.

Lee Memorial Garden, the 2.7-acre garden located at 89 Chichester Road, is currently in full bloom with many different varieties of azaleas, rhododendrons and perennials. Walking trails meander throughout the garden and a patio with seating allows visitors a full view of the garden.  Owned and cared for by New Canaan Beautification League, Lee garden is open daily to the public from dawn to dusk. For more information, please go to: newcanaanbeautification.org.

Finally, the New Canaan Men’s Club presented Joel Pelzner with its 2022 Distinguished Service Award at its annual luncheon meeting last week, recognizing him for his dedicated service to town organizations, surrounding communities and the Club. At the event, the Club also introduced its new slate of officers—Mickey Stayman succeeds Gene Dunkin as president, Peter Herring and John Kerchoff are vice presidents; Steve Johnson, secretary; Jim Lisher, assistant secretary; Dave Hunt, treasurer; and Ralph Hills, assistant treasurer. Board members are Mike Rolland, Frank Sparks, Zuhair Suidan, John Magill, Peter Eldridge and James P. Davis.
