Congratulations to a special dog—Frances, the pastoral pup at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, earned the “Paws-On” MVP Award during the Community Foundation Volunteer awards, co-chaired by Tracey Karl and Marley Thackray. St. Mark’s Church volunteers and Waveny LifeCare Network shared in the award. (Also congratulations to Tucker Murphy on being named the “Fall Guy” for the next Gridiron Club show.)

Speaking of the Karls, the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday appointed Kevin Karl—son of Steve and Tracey Karl—to the Parking Commission. The “Karl family is very important to our town and Kevin is a very good person to add to begin with town government,” First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said at the meeting. Selectman Kathleen Corbet said during the meeting that the appointee’s dad, Steve Karl—now chair of the Town Council—also started his career in municipal government volunteering, on the Parking Commission.

The Planning & Zoning Commission met for so long on Sept. 27—a marathon 6.5-hour session—that the lights went out in the Town Hall Meeting Room. The lights appeared to be on a timer and shut off at midnight.

Police received reports of motorists illegally passing stopped school buses at Smith Ridge Road and Northolt Drive (9:44 a.m. on Oct. 4), 122 Cherry St. (9:45 a.m. on Sept. 30) and Weed Street (5:24 p.m. on Sept. 30).

The New Canaan High School football team dedicated its Sept. 30 home game to help raise awareness of childhood and the Circle of Care, which provides emotional and financial assistance to families of children facing a childhood cancer diagnosis. The team wore gold for the game.
