Judy Phillips is stepping down after next month as executive director of New Canaan CARES. Representatives from the nonprofit organization said in an email that they’re accepting applications for the position, seeking candidates with “experience and success in fundraising and donor development, strategic thinking, as well as strong event, program and office management.” They continued “The CARES ED is an important community figure who will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors for the health and wellbeing of New Canaan youth and families. The New Canaan Farmers Market opens this weekend—to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lumberyard Lot downtown (and on Saturdays through Nov. 18).

Congratulations to Ayush Dave on earning the President’s Volunteer Service Award for 100-plus hours of combined volunteer service with Waveny LifeCare Network and the New Canaan Service League of Boys or “SLOBs.” Waveny Executive Director of Community Engagement and Volunteering Stella Clarke said in a statement, “The award is given to individuals for their unpaid acts of volunteer service benefiting others. Ayush exemplifies the spirit of the award in his service here at Waveny, bringing countless moments of joy to our memory care residents.”

Police are urging Waveny visitors to be vigilant after one person reported “escorting” behavior from a coyote in the southeastern corner of the park, possibly a sign of a den there. Authorities reported similar behavior in the same area, including coyotes biting people and their animal companions, in 2019 and 2020.

The owners of the New Beauty & Wellness spa coming to Main Street on April 10 filed an application with the New Canaan Building Department for an estimated $535,000 of interior work for the commercial space, which will include 2,390 square feet and 12 rooms with 12 massage stations.
