The number of suspicious persons and vehicles reported to New Canaan Police jumped 65% in the first quarter of this year, to 122 (from 74 in the year-ago quarter), DiFederico reported at the April 19 Police Commission meeting. 1. New Canaan has lost one its finest sons. Bailey Stewart represented what is best about this Town. He was a wonderful husband, father and for the past decade or so the culture carrier of the famous Stewart family which has contributed so much in so many areas to New Canaan. He was a humble servant leader, a principled and valued local businessman and an enthusiastic advocate for the Town. He had more friends than anyone I know and he was the best friend anyone could hope for. We will not soon see his like again. R.I.P.
