Congratulations to New Canaan Country School alumnus and documentary film producer Adam Leibowitz—brother of New Canaan’s Julia Stewart—on the premiere of a new Netflix docuseries, “Wrestlers” (preview here and New York Times review here). Leibowitz has been a producer on award-winning series such as “Last Chance U” and “Cheer.”

New Canaan Police announced this week that the department is hiring two new officers, Mairee Castro and Michael Schnell. Castro graduated from The Mary Louis Academy and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Molloy College, where she majored in Interdisciplinary Studies and Business Management. She has owned her own childcare facility and worked as head teacher at a nursery school. Schnell, previously employed as a cadet with the police in Brea, Calif., graduated from Woodbridge High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s from the University of North Texas, where he majored in Speech Pathology and Communications. They’re on track to graduate next spring from the Connecticut Police Academy.

The New Canaan High School Girls Volleyball charity campaign, Dig Pink, has raised more than $25,000 for the Side-Out Foundation, which provides treatment and research for metastatic breast cancer. The team is hosting a Dig Pink event at NCHS on Oct. 13 vs. Darien, with a raffle and bake sale. Those who cannot attend can donate here.

The Young Women’s League‘s 7th Annual Scarecrow Fest is back. Families and local businesses can purchase kits online through YWL’s website starting Oct. 2 or in-person at Weed & Duryea from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 7. Participants create their own scarecrow to display on the town lampposts from Oct. 16 to 31, then all can vote by QR code for their favorite scarecrow to go on display at New Canaan Library in November.
