New Canaan Police at 7:29 a.m. Sunday received a report of a burglary at a Deacon’s Way residence. Criminals had forced entry through a rear window and stolen cash and jewelry from the home. An investigation is underway.

The Silvermine Arts Center’s “Every Picture Tells a Story” exhibition at Silvermine Galleries will hold an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The exhibition will run through April 4.

Traffic complaints in New Canaan jumped from 24 to 41 year-over-year in January, according to data shared at the Feb. 21 Police Commission meeting.

Updates here from the Town Players of New Canaan: The organization is accepting plays for the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival through March (more background on the festival here). Also, its current production of “Puffs” is running through Sunday (ticket info here), and there’s an improv class coming up 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 with Nancy L. Meyer (info here).

Police at 4:13 p.m. on Feb. 22 received a report that someone had called an individual’s phone at a New Norwalk Road residence and yelled at him regarding his dog-related arrest. The street address is that of former Parks & Recreation Commissioner Jack Hawkins, arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

The Congregational Church of New Canaan will hold its annual meeting at 11:15 a.m. Sunday in person and via Zoom. Details here.

Hawkins has not yet retained a lawyer or entered a plea, according to Connecticut Judicial Branch records. He’s now scheduled for arraignment March 15.

A reminder that the second annual “Farm-To-Barn Brunch” will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Carriage Barn Arts Center. The brunch is a partnership between the Carriage Barn and New Canaan Farmers Market, more background here.

Police at 10:35 a.m. on Feb. 23 received a report of trespassing at the St. Aloysius Church construction site. The case involves juveniles, police said.

GetAbout this week announced that New Canaan’s Jill Ernst has been elected to its Board of Directors. Jill is co-president of the New Canaan Beautification League, the DAR Membership Chair, and an active parishioner of St. Mark’s Church. Jill and her husband, Chuck Loesch, have lived in New Canaan for 23 years. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Jill is now retired from a career in sales and marketing consulting.
