The Town Players of New Canaan and Open Arts Alliance of Greenwich are partnering to put on two performances of “Willy Wonka KIDS”—featuring New Canaan residents Teddy and Wesley Benenson as well as Miles and Izzy Langrick, joined by other students from Greenwich, Darien, Stamford, and Norwalk—at 3 and 5 p.m. Friday at the Powerhouse Theatre in Waveny. Congratulations to 2024 New Canaan High School graduate Luke Huang on being selected as one of give students to represent the U.S. Physics Team in the European Physics Olympiad. Chosen after outperforming more than 400 top scorers, he also placed as a top 40 finalist in the 2024 Regeneron Science Talent Search earlier this year for his research on binary cellular analysis.

The New Canaan-based Cathy Kangas Foundation for Animals will pay all adoption fees at Bridgeport Animal Control this Friday and Saturday (10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days) as part of its “Free the Shelters” initiative. The shelter is located at 236 Evergreen Street in Bridgeport. Launched in 2016 by Cathy Kangas, Free the Shelters has saved more than 10,000 animals in the United States and Canada by paying adoption fees. During the Bridgeport event, no appointments are needed. Applications can be completed on-site. Potential pet parents must bring documents for home ownership or a notarized letter from their landlord stating they can have a pet. There will be a meet-and-greet with all available animals with all dogs currently in the home along with any children.

The New Canaan Community Foundation has awarded $863,000 in grants to support 91 nonprofit organizations in New Canaan and surrounding communities, celebrating the recipients at an awards ceremony held June 5 at Grace Farms. This year’s grants will support a range of initiatives across Human Services; Arts, Culture, & Community Resources; Youth & Education; Health & Behavioral Health; and Seniors & Special Needs.
