New Canaan Police received two vandalism complaints—damaged political signs on Weed Street, near Irwin Park—at 4:46 p.m. and 5:54 p.m. on Nov. 4. Both cases are closed.

The Board of Selectmen on Monday approved the appointment of Steve Doka to the Board of Finance. Longtime member Tom Schulte has stepped down for work-related reasons, the selectmen said. James Yao was appointed as a regular member to fill Schulte’s seat.

Waveny LifeCare Network from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at Lapham Center will host its first “Memory Café,” gathering family caregivers and their loved one’s with Alzheimer’s or dementia for socialization and activity. Together with Lapham, Waveny will celebrate and honor Veterans Day through music with Ed Train, stories and games highlighting the history and traditions of the holiday.

The selectmen on Monday hired Antony Mallozzi as an equipment operator in the Highway Department and promoted Ryan Restivo to superintendent of parks.

To be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at The Playhouse, the evening—presented in partnership with Elm Street Books—will feature “cocktails, conversation, and literary delight,” organizers say.

New Canaan’s Wendy Coleman Dixon Hilboldt will be honored for her many years of community service at the 63rd annual Gridiron dinner on April 24 and 25 at the Country Club of New Canaan. A New Canaan High School and Skidmore College graduate, Hilboldt has worked as a resident tutor at ABC House, at NCHS as coordinator of Student Activities, and served as a director of the Teen Center where she choreographed two productions. Wendy also joined the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where she has served with distinction for 46 years. After earning a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Fairfield University, she worked as a kindergarten teacher, math teacher, tutor and long term sub. Hilboldt helped launch and grow the New Canaan Food Pantry, has served on the board of the New Canaan Community Foundation and is currently on its behavioral health committee. Wendy and her husband, Jim, have three children, Emily, Molly and Andrew and six grandchildren, and are longtime members and choristers at St. Mark’s church, where Wendy has also been a May Fair volunteer for more than 40 years.

Coming up this weekend: The Artisans Market Fine Art & Craft Fair will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 10 at Silvermine Galleries. “We have 15-plus artisans selling ceramics, jewelry, glass, wood, textiles, accessories, wall art and more,” organizers say. More info here.

Last Saturday afternoon, the Howard M. Bossa and Peter C. Langenus Post 653 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and volunteers from the NCHS Young Americans for Freedom Club, as well as others, gathered to place 400 flags on God’s Acre in preparation for Monday’s Veterans Day ceremony.
