New Canaan Police at 11:14 a.m. Tuesday received a report of two checks stolen from a South Avenue home and fraudulently deposited.

We hear the new Lombardi’s Ristorante & Bar (here on IG) that’s planned for Elm Street is on track for a March opening.

Now showing at the Playhouse movie theater on Elm Street: “The Brutalist,” “September 5,” and “Anora.” Coming next week is “Dog Man,” with “Captain America: Brave New World” to follow. Note that “Anora,” which has earned a “Best Picture” Oscars nomination, has screenings scheduled through Jan. 30 and it’s produced by former town resident Alex Coco.

Referring to the newly renovated and expanded New Canaan Police station, Chief John DiFederico told the Board of Selectmen during a budget presentation Tuesday that “we’re hoping to living there and operating out of there in June.” That would be several months ahead of schedule for the widely anticipated $29 million project, which officials say is on budget.

There’s limited space at “Silvermine Saturday: Forging a Bottle Opener” which is being offered on four Saturdays in February and March.

Here’s a 3-hour class that Silvermine Art School is offering on four Saturdays in February and March: “Forging a Bottle Opener.” The class description reads: “Be the life of the party with your own hand-forged iron bottle opener! Class will start with a demonstration on how to use a forge, anvil, and blacksmith’s hammer, after which students will learn how to forge a decorative bottle opener that they will finish and take home that same night. Students should wear cotton clothing, long pants, and closed-toed shoes.” There’s limited space, more info here.

On Monday, January 27th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the New Canaan Library, Bartlett Auditorium the New Canaan Behavioral Health Alliance will share the results of the Community Health & Well-Being Survey administered last October, which gathered insights from over 1,490 residents. This event will explore key findings, including trends shaping health and well-being in New Canaan, and discuss how these insights could guide future initiatives and funding opportunities. The First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan’s “Adult Forum,” featuring ABC House Executive Director Jamie Boris, will be held at 11:30 a.m. (following a 10 a.m. worship service) on Sunday. Lunch will be provided at the free forum, where Boris will talk about ABC, which marked 50 years in 2024.

The grand prize for this year’s Color Drop—the March 22 fundraiser for the New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation— is a red 2025 Chevy Colorado truck. At 1 p.m. next Saturday, Feb. 1, police, fire and EMS officials will escort the truck from Karl Chevrolet to South Avenue and Farm Road, where it will be parked in front of Saxe Middle School until the March event. A 41-year-old Norwalk man on Jan. 17 turned himself in to New Canaan Police on a paperless rearrest warrant for second-degree failure to appear. The original charges were motor vehicle-related infractions out of Wilton, court records show.

Head to the Carriage Barn Arts Center for the opening reception of the 45th annual photography show from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. The exhibition was juried by Brett Abbott, director and CEO of the New Britain Museum of Art, who selected about 100 images from 700 submissions by professional, amateur and student photographers from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Congratulations to the following photographers from New Canaan: Margot Furman, Ariel Ling, Charlotte Mayer, Barbara O’Shea Strong, John Owen, Sue Palmer Stone and Torrance York. This is the 45th annual juried photography show at the Carriage Barn Arts Center and runs through March 5.

New Canaan Chamber Music’s next concert, titled “Americans in Paris,” will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan.
