New Canaan Police are investigating three thefts from cars reported Tuesday morning—at 6:23 a.m., 8:39 a.m. and 10:11 a.m.—that may be connected. The larcenies occurred near each other, on Millport Avenue and Avalon Drive West, and a handbag and two wallets were reported stolen.

Bid online through 8:30 p.m. on Friday Dec. 5. “The one-of-a-kind wreaths are created and donated by local designers, creatives and organizations including New Canaan Mounted Troop, Laurent Ranch, New Canaan RAMS, Robert Dean Architects and The Glass House,” organizers say.

Livestrong at the YMCA Class of Fall 2025

The New Canaan YMCA celebrated six graduates of its Livestrong at the YMCA Class of Fall 2025 in November. A 12-week, research-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health, the Livestrong program has served more than 200 cancer survivors over the last 12 years. The organization is currently accepting applications for its winter session.

New Canaan CERT holiday party 2025.

New Canaan CERT members recently celebrated the holidays in the St Mark’s “Fireplace” room. Over 30 members attended the year-end gathering to casually review the year’s deployments and enjoy some holiday treats and cheer. Next year’s training class for New Canaan CERT will start in late January with six classes ending in late February. Dates and time schedule of the classes will be announced after the holidays.

The New Canaan High School football team will host No. 4 Hartford Co-Cop in the CIAC Class L semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Monday, after defeating Darien 42-7 in the quarterfinal round. The Rams also defeated the Blue Wave at the Turkey Bowl, 39-7.

Members of the New Canaan Beautification League and the New Canaan Garden Club gathered Nov. 19 at the New Canaan Nature Center to create the 36 wreaths and eight gnomes that decorate the town for the holidays. This collaboration between the two organizations has been thriving since 1976. The two groups thanked Janet Schmidt for her abundance of holly, as well as the town of New Canaan, Peter Aitken, Marianne Grandin, Hutchinson Tree Company, and Copia Home & Garden for donating beautiful greenery. Coffee donated by Zumbach’s helped keep everyone warm.

Swap Shop Winter Hours are now in effect. The Swap Shop is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday but Fridays the Swap Shop will close at noon until end of March.

The New England Academy of Dance’s production of “The Nutcracker” — this is its 40th year — will run at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12, 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the NCHS auditorium. Tickets here.

Speaking of “The Nutcracker,” congratulations to Saxe Middle School seventh-grader Eleanor Murphy, who will play the coveted role of Marie in the New York City Ballet’s production at Lincoln Center (her younger sister, Liliane Murphy, is also debuting in the NEAD show).
