Police on Saturday arrested a 45-year-old Greenwich man and charged him with evading responsibility.
On July 20, officers took a report of a crash that had occurred at about 4:50 p.m. that day on Southwood Drive, police said.
A witness saw a tow truck strike a fire hydrant owned by Aquarion and then leave the scene, according to a police report.
Following an investigation, police determined who the driver was and contacted him, the report said.
He came to police headquarters and at about 11:30 a.m. on July 25 was issued a summons for the misdemeanor charge. Police released the man after he promised to appear Aug. 25 in state Superior Court.
