Police last week arrested an 18-year-old New Canaan man who is accused of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision.
At about 4:14 p.m. on May 17, an officer was dispatched to Canaan Parish on a report of a parked car struck by a vehicle that left the scene, police said.
Through an investigation, police established probable cause to bring the misdemeanor charge, as well as a charge for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Under state law, a person is guilty of evading responsibility if he or she “has knowledge of having caused injury to the person or property of another and neglects, at the time of the injury, to stop and ascertain the extent of the injury and to render assistance, or refuses to give his name and address, or gives a false name or address when the same is asked for by the person injured or by any other person in his behalf or by a police officer.”
The teen was released after promising to appear June 6 in state Superior Court.
