The New Canaan Fire Department at about 9 p.m. on Dec. 5 reported to the structure fire on Ramhorne Road, according to a press release issued by Fire Chief Albe Bassett.
Arriving firefighters found a fire burning in the attic and quickly knocked it down “to limit extension,” Bassett said in the release.
“Firefighters removed the sheet rock on the ceiling and cut a couple of holes in the roof to completely extinguish the fire in the blown-in insulation,” he said. “The fire department was on scene overhauling the fire for three hours to ensure nothing was still smoldering.
It isn’t yet clear what caused the fire. That’s being investigated by the office of the fire marshal, Bassett said.

The occupants of the home had dialed 911 to notify authorities of the fire, which is why NCPD was able to prevent “excessive fire loss to the structure,” Bassett said.
Fire Departments from Vista, Pound Ridge, and South Salem, N.Y., as well as Westport, Norwalk and Wilton assisted in the incident.
“We thank them for their support,” Bassett said.
