Police last week arrested a 63-year-old South Salem, N.Y. man and charged him with interfering with an officer and failure to take a sobriety test.

At about 4:09 p.m. on April 8, an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on Route 123 that had no license plate, according to a police report. During the stop, the driver wasn’t cooperative when asked to provide a driver’s license, the report said.

While speaking to the man, the officer smelled alcohol, it said.

Asked to get out of his vehicle, the man refused and resisted attempts by responding officers to take him into custody, police said.

Police later determined that the man’s vehicle wasn’t registered and that his license was suspended, the report said. The man refused to undergo sobriety tests, it said.

He additionally was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police released the man on $2,500 bond and scheduled him to appear April 22 in state Superior Court.
